Wimbledon Water Bottles: Why Most Keep, Not Sell

What would you do with a branded Wimbledon water bottle? BPMA discovers more:
When asked what the public would do with a branded water bottle from Wimbledon, most people weren’t in it for the money. BPMA research revealed that:
- 44% would keep it as a memento
- 22% would use it daily
- 21% said they’d sell it online
- 5% would gift it to someone
- 8% would recycle or donate it
Even though some of these bottles are going for up to £100 online, the majority of people BPMA surveyed (66%) said they’d hang onto theirs—whether to use it or just to remember the experience. Only 1 in 5 would actually consider flipping it online.

When it comes to buying a second-hand bottle, people said the below:
- 8% said they definitely would
- 27% might consider it
- 26% were unlikely
- 39% said no chance
So even with resale value on the rise, the emotional pull of branded merchandise still wins. This research by the BPMA shows that for most consumers, promotional items like these hold long-term value—more as keepsakes and personal touches than quick cash grabs. A reminder for brands: merch matters, and it’s not just about the logo—it’s about the memory.
