To discover what really matters when it comes to Christmas gifting, the British Promotional Merchandise Association (BPMA) asked 200 people aged 18–45 about their festive preferences. Here’s what they revealed — and how your brand can make the most of it.

When’s the Best Time to Send Festive Gifts?

Timing can make all the difference.

Over a quarter of people (27%) said early December is the perfect time to receive branded festive gifts. 20% prefer to get into the Christmas spirit early — as soon as Halloween is over — while 17% like late November. Only a few said they’d want gifts right before Christmas, when things are already winding down.

Aim for early December — it strikes the ideal balance between excitement and practicality, giving your gift time to be enjoyed (and remembered) before the holiday break.

Which Type of Branded Festive Gifts are the Most Valuable?

People value gifts that feel personal, thoughtful, and useful. When asked what makes the best branded gift:

  • 24% chose personalised items
  • 22% picked edible treats
  • 21% preferred practical, everyday products

The takeaway? The best gifts combine thoughtfulness with usability — something that feels like it was chosen just for them, rather than another logoed item on a desk.

Why Presentation Matters

How a gift looks and feels can be just as important as what’s inside.

  • 40% said packaging is extremely or very important
  • 32% said it’s moderately important

A simple ribbon, a handwritten note, or an eco-friendly box can elevate a gift from ordinary to memorable — and leave a lasting impression of care and quality.

How Important Is It To You That The Gift You Receive Is Sustainable?

Sustainability is becoming a key part of how people see thoughtful gifting. When asked how important it is that the gifts they receive are sustainable, respondents said:

  • 34% – Very important
  • 37% – Moderately important
  • 15% – Slightly important

These results show that eco-friendly choices aren’t just a nice extra — they’re something people genuinely value.
